Write a message to your representative today to support these vulnerable species, like the Monarch Butterfly, so that we can live together in harmony.
After all, our communities can only be as healthy as we manage to keep theirs. In September 2019, Rep. Raul M. Grijalva (D-AZ) introduced H.R. 4348, the PAW and FIN Conservation Act of 2019. It would stop the administration from essentially nullifying both the way the Endangered Species Act analyzes threatened species and how it addresses critical habitats.
Vulnerable animals cannot be protected if they cannot be intrinsically evaluated without considering their economic contribution, and protections will not work if animals don’t have a place to live. After all, animals can’t make money and don’t pay rent! All of these animals you see here are at risk due to the administration’s enforcement changes, and I hope you can help Congress restore the law that protects our amazing variety of American wildlife.
This is what YOU can do:
1. Identify your local congressional representative. If you received art in the mail from me, his or her contact information is on the back. If not, you can find out here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
2. Choose your medium. Do you want to write a letter, send an image, or send a tweet? You can use these images for a post, if you want!
3. Find your representative’s contact information. For email, you can go through the house.gov link above, and click on the mail button on your representative’s profile. For Twitter and Instagram, you’ll have to google.
4. Draft your message. Here are two samples that you can copy and paste into your own message, or you can write your own!
Sample One: American wildlife has intrinsic value, and America is run through rule of law, which is drafted and passed by representatives of the people. One of those laws is the Endangered Species Act. Per the law as codified in this bipartisan 1973 legislation, economic considerations are not to factor into the protection of our unique wildlife, the pillar of the ecosystems in which we thrive as Americans. Enforcement changes by the administration unilaterally defy this well-established law, and undermine our democracy as much as our environment. Please lend your support to the PAW and FIN Conservation Act (H.R. 4348) to restore rule of law and safeguard our home environment.
Sample Two: Animals don’t have jobs and can’t pay rent, so how can they outbid us for their own lives? Restore the Endangered Species Act with #HR4348!
5. Send! You did it, you civic-minded go-getter!
